Are you looking for a fun activity to do with your friends, family, or coworkers this summer? YVSC’s CARbon-Free Challenge may be the perfect event for you. Currently, transportation is the number one source of emissions in the U.S., making up 28% of our emissions, and vehicle emissions can have harmful impacts on human health. So, every summer YVSC holds the CARbon-Free
Challenge to encourage locals to choose alternative forms of transportation, which collectively helps reduce our community’s carbon footprint and improves our air quality.

Taking place from June 1-30, participants will log their miles that they travel using alternative transportation (biking, walking, longboarding etc.) and have the ability to take part as a solo rider, family, or adult team. Riders who commit to taking alternative transportation at least once per week can expect great prizes from our local sponsors and fun prize categories. If you’re interested in participating in this year’s event on your own, with your family, or with a group of coworkers or friends, please fill out the form linked below. Registered participants will receive more information in the coming weeks.

Last year, our participants avoided 4.1 tons of emissions and saved 457 gallons of gas. We need people like you to help us break those numbers! Along the way, there will be fun opportunities to earn bonus miles, like visiting the Botanic Park or Farmers Market, attending Ski Haus’ Bike to Work Breakfast, taking a class at Yoga Center of Steamboat, dressing up for costume week, dropping off compost, and our awesome Kangaroo prize for those dedicated parents transporting their children by bike!
