Event Details

Project Description: Come work with the US Forest Service in California Park to maintain habitat exclosures. We will be raising fences around boreal toad habitat, and removing markers around two restoration sites.

MEDIUM: 3-4 miles of hiking, carrying items for extended distances

Project Details: California Park is located 1.5 hours northwest of Steamboat Springs and serves as the headwaters for the Elkhead River. There are multiple restoration efforts currently underway to maintain this vitally important wetland ecosystem. Wetlands are very effective carbon sinks and are an important habitat for boreal toads, which are currently listed as “endangered” in Colorado due to a decrease in population caused by chytrid fungus. We will help maintain these sites by removing markers along two restoration exclosures, as well as erecting a fence around boreal toad breeding habitats.
