This weekend capped off our 2015 season for our ReTree Program – closing out its best year yet with community engagement.
On Friday (Oct 2) we opened the 2-month ReTree Art Show at the Art Depot with the Steamboat Arts Council, hosting a gallery of over 45 artists from around the country with ReTree focused artwork, as well as launching our ReTree documentary which highlights the program’s 5-year history and mission. It was a great turnout showing the excellent support this program gets from our community, sponsored by LDM Global, Steamboat Smokehouse, Mahogany Ridge, and Yer State Birds. Then on Sunday, (Oct 4), we had our final public planting event at Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area, getting 150 cottonwoods and willows in the ground along the Yampa River, in partnership with Colorado State Forest Service and Colorado Parks and Wildlife in a river restoration project. Our final planting for 2015 is next week with Rocky Mountain Youth Corp, getting the last 40 Groasis Waterboxxes and evergreens into the year-long Stagecoach State Park project.
All in all, these events bring us to 6 total events this summer (double from previous years), engaging 175 volunteers, 76 of which were youth (under 18). We are overwhelmed by the support that this program receives and feel blessed that it is a part of our mission and programming.
