Yampa Valley Sustainability Council (YVSC) is proud to announce the resounding success of its “Insight: Art for Climate Action” event, which brought together over 230 individuals and raised over $63,000. This significant contribution will be instrumental in advancing YVSC’s mission to serve as a leader, catalyst, and resource for building a sustainable and resilient Yampa Valley region.

The funds raised will enhance YVSC’s programming opportunities across its five priority areas: Resilient Land and Water, Energy, Transportation, Waste and Community Engagement. These initiatives are crucial in fostering a sustainable and thriving Yampa Valley community.

The fundraiser, held on June 29, 2024, at the picturesque Larson Barn in Steamboat Springs, brought together over 40 artists who contributed more than 60 pieces of art inspired by YVSC’s work. A month-long exhibition before the event, displayed at Steamboat Creates, allowed community members to engage with the artwork and participate in a silent auction, raising awareness and support for climate resilience.

YVSC Executive Director Michelle Stewart emphasized the event’s importance, saying, “We firmly believe in the transformative power of art to communicate science and inspire action. This event provided a unique platform for our community to engage in the vital work of addressing climate change. The participation and support of all the artists and community members make this powerful medium of expression possible, giving us hope for a sustainable future.”

Donor Engagement Manager Kate Brocato expressed her excitement about the event’s impact, noting, “We are thrilled with the success of this annual fundraiser, which has proven to be instrumental in furthering climate action in our community. Through the power of art, we can inspire meaningful change and hope for the future by allowing our community to more deeply connect with climate science through visual story telling, all while making a tangible, positive impact on our environment. This event has shown us that we can make a difference together.”
