When the snow shovels come out so do the checkbooks to pay for higher home energy bills. Routt and Moffat county residents can learn how to lower home energy bills and increase home comfort through a free home energy assessment.
A local certified home energy auditor can help homeowners and renters learn more about how to improve energy efficiency issues such as cold drafts, furnace running too much, uneven heat, ice dams on roofs, open cabinet doors to keep pipes from freezing and higher than expected energy bills.

Utility ustomers who have service from both Yampa Valley Electric Association as well as primary home heating from Atmos Energy are eligible for a free comprehensive home energy audit and home safety check by signing up directly at www.EnergySmartColorado.com. Customers who do not have Atmos Energy for primary home heating can pay half price for the audit, or $150, or may be eligible for other funding through nonprofit Yampa Valley Sustainability Council that manages the local audit program.
