The 8th Annual Community Clean Up Day, May 17th, 2014, was yet another success- under the clearest, calmest skies this even has seen in its entire history!

167 volunteers from Steamboat, Yampa, Phippsburg and Oak Creek cleaned up roughly 35 miles of highway including U.S. Hwy 40, Col State Hwy 131, RCR  129, RCR 14, RCR 51, River Road, as well as 4 miles along the Core Trail. 36 volunteers form Smartwool and Christian Heritage went out on the Friday prior.

Saturday participants enjoyed a BBQ with dozens of prizes donated by many local businesses.  At the BBQ the 2nd Annual Keep it Green Keep it Clean award was given to the Routt County Sheriff’s Department for keeping roads clean throughout the year.

Clean Up Day doesn’t have to be our only day for Keeping it Green and Keeping it Clean – you can adopt a highway section and get good PR for your business, church group, school, or organization as well and dedicate time to keeping that section clean.  For US Highway 40 and Colorado 131,  please contact the Colorado Dept of Transportation NWCO office: Janelle Berner – janelle.berner@state.co.us. For City streets, parks, or trails, contact Sheila Weekly – sweekly@steamboatsprings.net. And for County roads (such as 129, 14, or 33), contact Janet Hruby – jhruby@co.routt.co.us
