Homeowners in Routt and Moffat counties are encouraged to sign up for a FREE home energy assessment to learn how best to improve the energy efficiency of their home. The home energy audits are free for homeowners who have Yampa Valley Electric Association service for electricity and Atmos Energy for the primary source of home heating.
This service – with a value of up to $350 – is available by signing up on the Energy Smart Colorado website at www.EnergySmartColorado.com and clicking on the For My Home link.
Atmos heat customers can also receive a free “quick-fix” kit valued at $50 for gas saving measures installed on site by the energy auditor such as a hot water heater blanket, insulating pipe wrap or programmable thermostat. Customers who have only YVEA service and no Atmos natural gas service can receive the home energy audit for half price or $150, which is due to the auditor at the time of the home visit.
The residential assessment includes an extensive walk-through and review of a home, a blower-door test and infrared imaging to show areas of air leakage. A comprehensive report is sent to the customer afterward with a list of recommendations. Homeowners will then have accurate information and images to show how to proceed with home energy efficiency improvements in a prioritized and cost effective manner.
The offering is free to homes 3,000 square feet or less, and homes larger than 3,000 square feet will have an additional charge of 5 cents per square foot. Home assessments in outlying areas may incur a modest travel fee.
