Why?

For 21 years, Resource Central has helped landowners on the Front Range save water by offering waterwise, native plants DIY planting kits. Our partnership in 2025 is bringing their successful program to Steamboat as the newest Western Slope hub, providing access to community members in Steamboat and surrounding communities including Oak Creek, Hayden and Craig. Order your kits online and pick up in Steamboat. You have two chances to order: once starting March 4 for plant pick up from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, and another starting June 17 for pick up from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8. Both pick-up locations are at the Howelsen Rodeo Grounds Parking Lot in Steamboat Springs.

Act Fast

Professionally designed for Colorado yards, these kits are easy to install and can help save over 5,000 gallons of water over the garden’s lifetime compared to a traditional grass lawn. Costing between $64-189, these kits are beautiful and affordable. To make the deal even better Resource Central is offering a $25 discount for the first 25 Yampa Valley customers applied at checkout. Starting March 4, visit ResourceCentral.org/Gardens to order your waterwise Garden in a Box and claim your discount. Act fast as the discounts are first-come, first-served and kits do sell out. People plant plants according to a Garden in a Box kit and map.

Easy

With Garden in a Box’s collection of starter plants, plant-by-number maps and plant care guides, waterwise Yampascaping doesn’t have to be intimidating. You just pick up the pre-ordered plants in June or August at our Steamboat location, then take them home and plant them according to the maps. Use the kits to replace thirsty turf grass or fill in bare garden beds with drought-tolerant plants. Some of the kits are specially tailored to high-altitude landscapes. Follow the watering guidelines and seasonal care for your garden, then spend all the time (and money) you save simply enjoying the summer and knowing that you’re contributing to a resilient Yampa Valley!
