April is almost here! For some, this month marks the end of ski season, spring break, and warmer days ahead, but for YVSC April is all about Earth Day! Now in it’s 53rd year, Earth Day is a wonderful way to celebrate all that our beautiful Yampa Valley provides for us and recognize all that we must do to protect it. Earth Day is a time where we can do more than just talk about climate action, it’s a time when we can take climate action! Here are three things that you can do this month to take your own climate actions:
1. Attend YVSC’s Earth Day Celebration
On Saturday April 8 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Steamboat Resort Base Area join YVSC and our many environmental partners for our annual Earth Day Celebration. This educational and fun family-friendly event will convene the community to celebrate and learn actions we can all take to be stewards of our beautiful Yampa Valley region. All attendees will learn about how they can reduce their environmental impacts, from volunteering to steps at home, and there will be a wide variety of fun educational activities for the whole family.
2. Purchase an Earth Day print to give back to the environment
YVSC has teamed up with local artist Jill Bergman to offer the amazing artwork pictured at the right in the form of stickers, posters, and original linocut prints. When you purchase one of these
items, you are doing more than buying new artwork for your home, you are making a purchase that gives back directly to the Yampa Valley. All proceeds from the sale of these prints and stickers, will be donated to Yampa Valley Community Foundation’s Environmental Fund. These items will be available for purchase during our Earth Day Celebration. If you can’t make it to the event, stop by the YVSC office to get your own 2023 Earth Day sticker, poster, or, original linocut print.
3. Get Involved!
YVSC has more ways than one for you to get involved in local climate action projects, and with summer right around the corner, it’ll be hard to choose just one activity. From tree planting events and restoration projects Yampa Valley Climate Crew, to zero waste events and internship opportunities, there’s something for everyone.
