Event Details

The Liberty City public housing community in Miami becomes ground zero for climate gentrification. A film & conversation.

The  2023/’24 Indie Lens season of films and community conversations continues with a documentary by Katja Esson (director/producer) and Ann Bennett (producer).

Liberty City, Miami, was home to one of the oldest segregated public housing projects in the U.S. Now with rising sea levels, the neighborhood’s higher ground has become something else: real estate gold. Wealthy property owners push inland to higher ground, creating a speculators’ market in the historically Black neighborhood previously ignored by developers and policy-makers alike.

This film and conversation is a co-presentation by Bud Werner Library and Yampa Valley Sustainability Council . After the film, YVSC will lead a panel discussion surrounding the film and how its themes play out in our Yampa Valley community. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate.

Razing Liberty Square will premiere on PBS on January 29, 2024.
